Hi! I’m Sarah Frye and I’ve been a librarian at College of Marin since 2013. I studied History as an undergraduate at Hanover College and I earned my Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Indiana University.
After completing my Master’s degree, I began teaching as a Librarian at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. At Wartburg, I helped students learn about research and information literacy in required courses across many different subject areas. I later worked as a Librarian at Miami University Middletown in Ohio where I taught EDT 251, Effective Use of Libraries, a required course in the Teacher Education Program. In both of these positions, I helped students with all kinds of questions at the reference desk.
Before coming to COM, I worked for Pierce College in Lakewood, WA, where I helped students at the reference desk and taught INFO 101, Research Essentials, an introduction to college-level research. I also collaborated with librarians across the state in a grant project called “Rising Junior,” which prepared students to transfer to four-year institutions and I participated in Achieving the Dream, a national initiative aimed at reducing achievement gaps. I earned tenure at Pierce in spring 2013.
In 2011, I participated in the Association of College and Research Libraries’ Immersion Teacher-Track Program, focused on best teaching practices.
At the College of Marin, I help students one-on-one at the reference desk and through library sessions for many different courses in English, History, Humanities, Communication, and Political Science, Biology, and more! I also serve on the Executive Council for the United Professors of Marin, and various campus committees. I love being a librarian because I get to empower students by helping them access and evaluate information. When I’m not in the library, I love running, surfing, and spoiling my two cats.
