Ryan Byrne serves as the Director of Student Services for Kinesiology and Athletics. Within this role, he serves as the Director of Athletics and Kinesiology, and also oversees the Student Health Center. Byrne is focused on utilizing students’ personal passion and interests to ignite their academic motivation and support their efforts in reaching their goals. During Byrne’s time as the Athletic Director, College of Marin’s academic and athletics success has seen a dramatic improvement. Since 2017, the student-athlete population has grown by nearly 30%, team GPAs have increased by over .3 points (to over a 3.00 department GPA) and teams have had more competitive success, with 3 teams making it to the state playoffs in 2021-22 for the first time, according to CCCAA records. Ryan started off his academic career at Santa Rosa Junior College, utilizing athletics as a means to transfer to Florida A&M University, UC Davis (BA in Sociology), and UC Berkeley (MA in Education). Prior to coming to College of Marin, Byrne was the Athletic Director at Santa Barbara City College from 2011-2016.
