Raul Aguilar has over twenty-five years of experience in Marin County Law Enforcement. Raul began his career with the San Rafael Police Department in 1999. As a police officer, Raul held multiple assignments, including patrol, gangs and narcotics enforcement, sex crimes detective, and field training officer. Raul was promoted to Sergeant in 2009 and led Patrol teams and later the Street Crimes Unit. Raul and his Street Crimes detectives were cross-sworn as US Marshals and, in that capacity, worked with the FBI North Bay Safe Streets Task Force from 2010 to 2013. Raul had additional tours of duty, including three years as Sergeant of the Traffic unit and three years as the Community Engagement and Social Media Sergeant.
Raul stands for justice, compassion, and dignity for all. He believes in following the tenets of 21st-century policing and building relationships one by one.
Raul immigrated to the United States as an adolescent. His story is not unlike many other immigrants in our community. He spoke no English, struggled to adapt to his new home, and yearned for the people he left behind. California Community Colleges helped him learn English and prepared him for his academic life. Raul holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University (Cincinnati, OH) and a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs from the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley.
Raul enjoys traveling the world for personal enrichment and
a global perspective. He recently returned from hiking Mount Fitz Roy in the Patagonia area of Argentina. Raul lives in Novato with his life partner and their dogs, Kilo and Felony.
