Lauren Servais

Higher education transformed Lauren’s life, and in her 20+ years as an educator, Lauren has endeavored to pay the transformation forward.  Her educational praxis centers on equity, inquiry, community, culture, and aloha.  

Lauren began her career in Washington, where she participated in accreditation, the scholarship of teaching and learning, college-wide learning outcome teams, and multiple learning communities.  After moving to California, Lauren served in various roles including English department chair, chair of department chairs, Basic Skills Initiative coordinator, equity coordinator, Puente co-coordinator, new faculty professional learning co-coordinator, SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) co-facilitator, and JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) focused inquiry group co-facilitator.

Lauren earned her BA in English from the University of Hawaii, Manoa, MA in English Literature from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington, Seattle.  

Lauren was born on Oahu, Hawaii, speaks Hawaiian Creole, enjoys talking stories, is a working mom and wife, and weaves, with joy, the fullness of her intersectional identity into her work as an educator.
