Jeffrey Tadór Reeder

Jeffrey Tadór Reeder, Ph.D., currently serves as Interim Dean of Instruction for Math and Sciences. Reeder comes to us from Cal State, Northridge, where he was Dean of the College of Humanities and where he served as the university’s inaugural Senior Tribal Liaison Officer, strengthening partnerships with Native nations and guiding campus policies in support of Indigenous students and communities. Reeder’s educational journey was an unconventional one; his K-12 education was an amalgamation of 14 different schools in four countries and three languages. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy and after his service – unsure what to do next – his passion for education was awakened as a community college student at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas where he was awarded “Outstanding Geology Student” while also attending full time and working as a college Spanish tutor, youth coach, and farmhand. After transferring to the University of Texas and earning his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, Reeder taught at two community colleges in Texas prior to joining the faculty at Sonoma State University in 1998, where he taught courses in Spanish, Portuguese, Education, Kinesiology, and Native American Studies as well as serving in leadership roles including Department Chair, Faculty Associate Dean, and Chair of the Faculty.

Over his career, he has published in areas such as language acquisition, translation studies, and intercultural education, and he has held roles of national significance (for example, as the College Board’s Chief Reader of AP Spanish Language and Culture) that connect his work to broader audiences. He has worked as a professional translator and interpreter, including as a volunteer translator for the United Nations, and he is a former national silver medalist in traditional archery.

Reeder is grateful for the warm welcome he is receiving at the College of Marin, grateful to be back in the North Bay with family, and grateful that he no longer has to commute to Los Angeles from his home in Novato. Dr. Reeder is deeply committed to equity in education, community, and service and looks forward to supporting the instructional mission and community connections at the College of Marin. He looks forward to meeting you and welcomes you to join him on walks around the campus area.
