Marceline Bonilla recently joined the College of Marin as a new Physics and Astronomy Instructor. She is thankful to be able to return to the Bay Area, as she was born in San Francisco. Raised by Peruvian immigrants, she grew up speaking both English and Spanish and spent some time learning to read Japanese and Chinese during her high school and college years. In her academic career, she has attained Physics and Mathematics degrees from UC Davis, and a Ph.D. In Physics from Cornell University. Prior to joining the College of Marin, she was a post-doctoral researcher at Cal State Fullerton working on computer simulations of merging black holes and lived in Los Angeles for four years. Her interests are simulation, geometry, drawing diagrams by hand, and foreign languages. Though she feels she can finally explain what a black hole is in one language, she hopes that one day she can explain it in three.
