Joanna Pinckney

Joanna plays both violin and viola and has a B.A. in Music Education from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music. Currently, she works full-time in the Performing Arts and Music office at the College of Marin, and also actively serves on the district’s Curriculum Committee. Joanna is also the Vice-President of Chapter 196 of the California School Employees Association (CSEA) at COM, and the Assistant Regional Representative for Region 80 of CSEA in Marin County.

Joanna is a long-standing member of the Stockton Symphony, served as their Orchestra Personnel Manager for eleven seasons, and was awarded the Stockton Symphony Encore! Award in 2018 for her outstanding service. In addition, she is Concertmaster and string coach for the College of Marin Symphony Orchestra. Joanna made her conducting debut at the Sydney Opera House in Australia in 1997, where she and the Central Valley Youth Symphony won a gold medal at the International Music Festival. In June 2000, she conducted the World Premiere of “Tango non Troppo” by composer Mark Fish at Carnegie Hall. Joanna is a freelance violinist and violist and has performed with numerous ensembles throughout Northern California.
