Tyler Graves

Tyler Graves is a freelance trumpeter and music educator in the greater Bay Area. Tyler prides himself on being a well-rounded player, as well as an active music educator. He can be found playing with the Golden Gate Park Band, the Green Street Mortuary Band, and the Bay Blue Notes, the Golden State Warriors' own New Orleans-style brass band. He also enjoys collaborating and performing with other local musicians — he and fellow musicians provided music, personal arrangements, and compositions for Academy of Art University's 2019 and 2022 fashion shows. He currently teaches at the College of Marin, including conducting the Golden Gate Brass Band, and holds a trumpet studio in the North Bay. He previously taught as an aide with the Miller Creek School District for over 5 years.

Before moving to San Francisco in 2016, Tyler was performing and teaching in Cincinnati, Ohio. While there, he taught at Ohio Northern University and in June of 2015, he had the opportunity to travel to Tanzania, where he spread music through performance and education. He has had the pleasure of performing in Carnegie Hall, at Lincoln Center/Juilliard, and at the 2012 Ravinia Festival.

Tyler is a native of Wickliffe, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio Northern University with his Bachelor of Music in performance, where he studied with Dr. David Kosmyna. He obtained his Master's degree in 2013 from Miami University, where he studied with Professor James Olcott.
